Elastic Acoustic - Sonic interaction

Elastic Acoustic is an interactive stretchable, skin-colored fabric sculpture, constructed in the shape of a tube where the visitors can interact with each other and with the fabric from the inside and out. Using contact microphones and movement sensors, the audience’s touch affects the sound source - the low rumbling of the recorded material sounds are amplified as the tube is enlarged, and the microphone output becomes more visceral with increased pressure. Elastic Acoustic as an audio interface of sorts, a textile-based midi controller which attempts to translate the movement of the fabric into sound. Elastic Acoustic tells a story about personal space and intimacy.
